Elections in Austria: equal results when counting 90% of the votes

After counting about 90% of the votes during the second round of the presidential election in Australia, both candidates gain about the same number of votes, the Associated Press reports.

Recall that for the post of President of Austria are fighting Norbert Hofer, representing the right populist Austrian freedom party, and former leader of the «green» Alexander van der Bellen.

The candidates of the political forces forming the ruling coalition – the Social democratic party of Austria and the Austrian conservative people’s party – for the first time in the postwar period have not passed the second round of voting.

In Austria the President is elected by popular vote for a term of 6 years and performs mainly representative functions, the Executive branch is headed by the Federal Chancellor.
