Armenia began thinking about the recognition of the Nagorno Karabakh (Арцах)

The government of Armenia on Thursday, may 5, will consider a draft law on recognizing Nagorno Karabakh Republic. On Tuesday, may 3, reports news Agency ARKA.

“The Republic of Armenia recognizes the Republic of Artsakh in Armenia called Nagorno Karabakh stated in the text of the document. A report on the matter by the Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian. The official conclusion of the Cabinet of Ministers will be sent to Parliament.

The creation of the document was facilitated by the negotiations between Yerevan and Stepanakert. In addition, “Armenia during its preparation, took into account possible future processes and external factors follows from the explanations to the draft law.

In early April, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan promised to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh in the event of an escalation of hostilities.

According RIA Novosti, the initiative for the recognition of the sovereignty of the Republic were made in the Armenian Parliament repeatedly since 2009. However, the deputies refused to accept the document, explaining that the reluctance to harm the course of negotiations for a peaceful settlement.

On the night of 2 April a truce in the conflict zone in Nagorno-Karabakh was violated. Fighting broke out along the southern, South-Eastern and North-Eastern sectors of the contact line. According to the UN, as a result of armed clashes killed at least 33 people, more than 200 were injured.

Ethnic conflict in the region escalated in the late 80’s-early 90-ies of the last century, grew into armed clashes in 1991, when parts of the territories of the region was proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR). Baku tried to regain the region under its control by force, but failed. In may 1994, Armenia and Azerbaijan with the mediation of Russia signed a Protocol on ceasefire.
