10 killed in election-related violence in Philippines

At least 10 people have been killed in election-related violent incidents on Monday, according to the Armed forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Noel Detoyato, chief of the AFP's Public Affairs Office, said the AFP National Election Monitoring Centre, which monitored 22 election-related violent incidents which have resulted in 10 fatalities and three injuries nationwide as of 2 p.m. Monday.

The violent incidents included ambushes, indiscriminate firings, explosions, arsons and harassments.


  • From January 10 to May 8, 15 people had been killed in election-related violent incidents, according to the Philippine National Police.

The police implemented a total gun ban and installation of checkpoints all over the country for the election period from January 10 to June 8.
