The European Union’s decision to introduce personal sanctions against a range of Libyan politicians shows that the EU seeks to act in a unilateral order bypassing the United Nations Security Council, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
"Moscow considers that the attempts to influence the situation in Libya by "punishing" Libyan politicians are counterproductive. Such an approach will hardly contribute to settling the Libyan domestic crisis," the ministry stressed.
The move could lead to further differences and "deepening of the split on the Libyan political scene," the statement said.
