Kuwait requested a meeting of the Arab League nations over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's vow that "the Golan Heights will remain in the hands of Israel forever," Al-Arabiya reported on Tuesday.
Nabil al-Arabi, secretary general of the pan-Arab bloc headquartered in Cairo, said Netanyahu's statement "was a new escalation that represents a brazen violation of international law."
Germany condemned the declaration, saying a unilateral Israeli decision to maintain control of the Golan Heights would break international law. The United States similarly rejected the remarks, reiterating that it does not recognize the Golan as Israeli territory.
