U.S. will continue to support Kurdish forces against ISIS in Syria (John Kirby)

The spokesperson of the U.S. State Department said that the U.S. does not consider the Syrian Kurdish forces of YPG, the armed wing of PYD that controls large swathes of northern Syria, as a terrorist organization and will continue to support the them in their fight against ISIS.

Speaking in Washington, D.C. on Monday’s daily press briefing, Spokesperson John Kirby said that they are aware of Turkey’s concerns on the YPG, however, it is one of the most successful forces in the fight against Daesh.

Asked whether the U.S. considers the YPG as allies or partners, “Syrian Kurds are our partners against Daesh,” Kirby said.

Last week, President Barack Obama’s Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter Daesh, Brett McGurk, paid a visit to PYD-controlled Kobani and held talks.

Turkey’s Islamist dictator Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking to journalists on his return flight from a controversial 5-day Latin America trip, said the U.S. should decide who its regional partner is, Turkey or the “terrorists” in Syria. He called on the US and international powers to consider Kurdish forces as terrorists.

Turkey is considered to be main supplier of arms to ISIS terrorists and a safe heaven for its fighters arriving in Turkey from other parts of the world.

Turkey’s attempts to prevent Kurds from Syria to gain ground in the region have failed and Kurds continue to expand their reach in the region the the help provided by international communityy.
