Actions against ISIS/ISIL yield positive results - (French defense minister)

The fight against the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group (outlawed in Russia) launched by the international coalition is delivering concrete results, French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said last night. He was speaking aboard the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier based in the Persian Gulf.

"It is in this region that the fight against the Islamic State group is unfolding, and this strategy is yielding positive results. The data that we have obtained show that IS is going on the defensive everywhere, and these actions are rather ineffective. This is proved, in particular, by the fact that it (the group -TASS) has surrendered the city of Ramadi (Iraq)," the minister said addressing naval mariners as quoted by French media on Friday.

"Our objective is the complete destruction of this terrorist organization. It is necessary to continue strikes against militant positions in Syria and Iraq, as they enemy begins to retreat. We should seek the destruction of its potential, to deprive it of mobility and suppress its attempts to launch an offensive.  It is also necessary to wage war on the ground," Jean-Yves Le Drian said.

The minister dined with the officers aboard the aircraft carrier and sang a song with them.
