WADA Call to Ban Russia From Global Athletics Against IAAF Rules

The acting president of Russia's athletics federation, Vadim Zelichenok said that further proof should be provided to support the claim of World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) that an entire federation, and not individual athletes, committed doping violations.

The World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) recommendation that Russia be disqualifies from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) contradicts the Association's rules, the acting president of Russia's athletics federation said Monday.

Earlier in the day, WADA issued a report recommending that Russia to be suspended from all competitions organized under the IAAF banner.

"This contradicts the rules. There is an IAAF Constitution. This issue should be considered at the IAAF Council in November," All-Russia Athletics Federation's (ARAF) Vadim Zelichenok told R-Sport news agency.

Zelichenok said his organization had not been informed whether the decision to disqualify the ARAF was on the agenda of the IAAF Council’s November 26-27 autumnal session in Monaco. The acting ARAF president said further proof should be provided to support the claim that an entire federation, and not individual athletes, committed doping violations.

"We must be given the opportunity to prove our innocence," he stressed.

The Russian Anti-Doping Agency RUSADA disqualified a number of athletes last January for violating anti-doping rules.

  1. Russian Anti-Doping Agency slams World Anti-Doping Agency commission’s report...

A report, delivered on Monday by the Independent Commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is ‘raw’ and its stated accustations against Russia are ungrounded, Nikita Kamayev, the president of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) told TASS on Monday.

"If we speak about the allegedly destroyed doping samples, I see only a raw report and declarative statements without any proof," Kamayev said in an interview with TASS. "This also goes in regard to accusations of bribes offered by athletes. I see no logic here. All accusations are ungrounded at the moment."

"The report has been just published," he said. "We will be ready to give a balanced evaluation of this situation only after we thoroughly study all of the case materials."

WADA’s commission recommended the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) to suspend Russian athletes from all competitions. It also recommended to ban for life five Russian athletes and five coaches over their involvement in doping abuse violations as well as to strip the Moscow anti-doping laboratory of its license and sack its director Grigory Rodchenkov.

"In fact, we have only recommendations at the present moment and no pressed charges," Kamayev said. "Final decisions will be made in 10 days. As for the recommendations of life suspensions for our athletes, I would say it is a common practice. There is nothing particular about it."..............http://tass.ru/en/sport/835027
