All four power lines were cut, reports said, leaving the region's two million inhabitants without electricity.
Images circulated on social media appeared to show Ukrainian flags attached to the damaged pylons.
Crimea was annexed by Russia last year, but the Ukrainian authorities have continued to supply power to the area.
Crimean authorities said they had managed to partially reconnect the cities of Simferopol, Yalta and Saky using generators.
Mikhail Sheremet, Crimea's deputy prime minister, said the peninsula's hospitals had backup power sources and would not be affected.
The Crimean Emergencies Ministry has declared a state of emergency and put rescue teams on high alert.
"Crimea is completely cut off," Viktor Plakida, the director of Crimea Energy, told Russia's Tass news agency.
A local emergency response official told Russia's Tass news agency that Crimea was "operating in standalone mode". But the peninsula can only produce half the power it needs, Mr Sheremet said.
Two of the four main power lines were cut in an earlier attack on Friday, reports said.
Ukrainian authorities said they encountered activists blockading the site when they tried to repair the damaged pylons.
"The nature of the damage shows that it took place as a result of shelling or the use of explosive devices," Ukraine's state energy company Ukrenergo said in a statement.
Crimean Tatars, an ethnic group native to the peninsula who oppose Russian rule, held a protest at the site of the broken power lines in Kherson region, Russia's RIA news agency reported.

Earlier on Sunday, Crimea introduced a state of emergency in connection with electric power supply disruption from Ukraine. The peninsula’s power system is currently working in an isolated regime, Sheremet said.

On Friday morning, police of the Kherson region of Ukraine reported on Friday morning that two transmission towers of the line to Crimea were damaged, as a result of which two of the four power lines to the peninsula were disconnected from the grid.
The Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Crimea warned the region’s people on Friday evening that electricity supply disruption was possible. The population was advised to charge the batteries, stock up on water and not to use electric household appliances without necessity during the morning and evening peak loads. Reserve power capacities were used on the peninsula for ensuring power supply to socially important facilities.
Earlier on Sunday, head of the Crimea Sergei Aksenov told reporters that there was no threat of blackouts. "The headquarters have mobilized all the staff responsible for the accuracy and safety of electricity supply in the Republic of Crimea. Everybody was on the alert on the workplace. But still there were no outages, no restrictions were introduced," Aksenov told reporters.

ReplyDeleteCrimean-based power supplier Krymenergo confirmed the power outages. "The electricity supply of Crimea has been cut off completely. I cannot tell you any details now," Krymenergo Director Viktor Plakida told TASS.
The power blackout was confirmed by the local department of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the two out of the four transmission pylons on the administrative border between mainland Ukraine and Russian-occupied Crimea, which were damaged by blasts in the early hours of November 20, were destroyed completely late on Saturday, November 21, according to reports in social networks.
The four transmission pylons belong to the power grids supplying electricity to Crimea and some areas in Ukraine's Kherson and Mykolaiv regions.
