US Assistant Secretary Nuland to Visit Spain, Turkey, Greece

US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland starts her visit to Madrid, Ankara, and Athens on Monday, the US Department of State announced.

 On Tuesday, she will discuss the fight against terrorism, refugee crisis and security threats to Ankara with senior Turkish government officials.

"Nuland will join Secretary Kerry October 18-19 in Madrid, Spain, where he will meet with King Felipe VI, President Rajoy, and Foreign Minister Garcia-Margallo to discuss a range of bilateral and global issues," the US State Department said in a statement issued Sunday.

  • The following day, the US assistant secretary will travel to Athens to discuss economic reforms, the issue of migration and energy diversification.

She is also expected to take part in an international conference "Religious and Cultural Pluralism and Peaceful Coexistence In the Middle East" held in the Greek capital, organized by the country’s Foreign Ministry.

    The following day the Assistant Secretary will travel to Athens, Greece, where she will meet with senior Greek government officials to discuss a range of bilateral and regional issues, including economic reforms, the refugee crisis, and energy diversification.

    Nuland is traveling to Turkey after joining U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Oct. 18-19 in the Spanish capital Madrid.
