The Ukrainian president also called to focus on the modernization of the United Nations Security Council and improvement of methods of its work. "The membership of the UN Security Council should reflect realities of the 21st century by representing larger quantity of African, Asian and Latin American States," Poroshenko said. "Additional non-permanent seat in the Council should be given to the Eastern European Group of countries — its composition doubled during the last two decades."

Die Sitzungspräsidentin begrüßt Ukraines Präsident Petro Poroschenko als Redner; die Plätze der Russischen Föderation: verwaist. Es ist wohl die russische Antwort auch darauf, dass Poroschenko wiederum, als Wladimir Putin redete, demonstrativ den Saal verlassen hatte.
Jetzt also steht Poroschenko am Mikrofon. Wie könne man der Freiheit der Nationen das Wort reden, seinen Nachbarn dafür aber bestrafen?, fragt er. Poroschenko redet 23 Minuten lang. Es wird eine Generalabrechnung mit Russland. Einem Land, das offen Krieg führe gegen die Ukraine, wie Poroschenko wieder und wieder betont.

Putin hatte am Montag noch von einem "Bürgerkrieg" in der Ukraine gesprochen. Poroschenkos Definition ist eine andere. Und damit auch niemand im Saal ihn und das, was in der Ukraine seit der Annexion der Krim passiert, missversteht, schiebt er nach: "Wir reden hier nicht über einen Bürgerkrieg oder einen internen Konflikt!"
