Mortar shells hit university in Damascus, killing 2 students

Two university students were killed Wednesday when two mortar rounds struck Mechanical Engineering Faculty in capital Damascus, pro-government Sham FM radio reported.

Tony Naqul and Rakan Slaiman were killed and 15 others injured when the mortars landed at the building of designing engineering section in the university, said the report.

Mortar shelling by rebels in the eastern countryside of Damascus has become a daily occurrence.

People get killed and wounded on daily basis as a result of the blind mortar fire that misses original declared target, mainly security positions, and always strikes residential and civilian facilities.

Militants say that their mortar attacks against the capital come in retaliation to the Syrian air force strikes against rebel-held areas in eastern Damascus.

Since the conflict in Syria broke out more than four years ago, at least 250,000 people have been killed, including over 10,000 children, and about 12 million people have been forced to flee their homes.
