Turkey launches airstrikes on PKK targets over killing of three security forces

Turkish Air Forces bombed the determined targets in southeastern Daglica town of Hakkari province in southeastern Turkey on Tuesday, the Turkish military said in a written statement.

F-16 fighter jets bombed "terrorist targets" after mortar shells fired by the PKK in Daglica town and injured a girl, said the statement.

The Turkish air forces reportedly launched airstrikes on PKK hideouts in northern Iraq on late Monday.

  • Three soldiers of the Turkish security forces were killed in an ambush by the PKK members in the southeastern province of Sirnak.

The group attacked patrolling security forces with long-barreled guns after detonating a land mine explosive on the road, Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) said in a statement on Tuesday.

Tensions with PKK and Turkish troops and policemen have been mounting following a tumultuous week that began with an Islamic State (IS) suicide bomb which killed 32 and injured 104 activists in the town of Suruc in Sanliurfa bordering Syria on July 20.

Turkish security forces have detained over 1,300 individuals with suspected ties to the IS, PKK, and leftist groups, according to a statement from the Turkish prime minister's office.
