Ban Ki-moon to visit Moscow on May 9, has plans to meet Putin

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will visit Moscow to participate in the festivities marking the 70th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany and he is also planning to have a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman for the UN secretary general, told reporters on Monday.

The UN secretary general is going to pay a visit to Moscow for marking Victory Day on May 9, Dujarric said. While in Moscow, Ban will meet with Putin and heads of other delegations present at the celebrations.

Director General of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Irina Bokova will accompany Ban Ki-moon.

Dujarric said that after his departure for Moscow the UN secretary general would make stopovers in Gdansk (Poland) and Ukraine’s capital Kiev on May 7 and 8 in order to meet Presidents Bronislaw Komorowski and Petro Poroshenko alongside other officials.

    Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will take part in the celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism in Moscow, the president’s administrative office said on Tuesday.

    According to presidential spokesman Alaa Yousef, the Egyptian leader will visit the Russian capital on May 9 "to take part, together with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in the celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the Victory over Nazi Germany."

    UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon plans to visit Moscow on Saturday to attend celebrations of the Soviet Union's victory in World War II over Nazi Germany, despite criticism from Ukraine and other central European states.

    Ahead of the event, Ban will also visit Poland and Ukraine to take part in events commemorating of the end of the Second World War, Ukraine Today reports.

  3. Ban Ki-moon viene a Mosca nonostante le pressioni..

    Il Segretario generale dell’ONU Ban Ki-moon verrà a Mosca per la Festa del 9 maggio, nonostante la pressione che su di lui è stata esercitata, ha fatto sapere il rappresenante della Russia all’ONU Vitaly Churkin.

    "Posso dire che la sua è una decisione giusta, una scelta di principio. So che su di lui è stata esercitata una fortissima pressione per dissuaderlo", — ha detto il diplomatico.

    Lunedì l'ufficio stampa dell'ONU ha ufficialmente annunciato la visita del Segretario generale a Mosca per partecipare alle celebrazioni dedicate alla Giornata della Vittoria. Nell'ambito della visita Ban Ki-moon intende anche incontrare il presidente Vladimir Putin.....http://sptnkne.ws/h9z
