Gulf Arabs will take measures over Yemen if peace fails (Saudi Arabia)

Gulf Arab countries will take necessary measures to protect the region against "aggression" by Yemen's Iranian-allied Houthi group if a peaceful solution cannot be found to that country's turmoil, Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal said on Monday.

Prince Saud, who also remarked that the kingdom opposed Iranian "interference" in Yemen, was speaking at a joint news conference in Riyadh with visiting British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond.

Hammond said Britain would discuss with Saudi Arabia and the United States how to reinforce the position of Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, adding: "None of us wants to see military action."

  1. Yemen’s embattled government appeals for regional military aid...

Yemen’s foreign minister appealed Monday for Gulf Arab neighbors to launch military strikes against Shiite rebels threatening to overrun the last stronghold of the Western-allied government as the country sinks further toward full civil war.

Although Saudi Arabia and its Persian Gulf partners are fearful of spillover from Yemen’s collapse, they have given no indication of consensus on possible intervention and appear unlikely to quickly mobilize their joint military command.

The call for help reflects the increasing desperation of forces loyal to President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi as they try to hold off advances on Yemen’s second-largest city, Aden, by powerful insurgents known as Houthis and believed backed by Shiite power Iran...............http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle_east/yemens-embattled-government-appeals-for-regional-military-aid/2015/03/23/fc412fa0-d162-11e4-ab77-9646eea6a4c7_story.html?wprss=rss_homepage
