“The president has signed a law paving the way for the trial of Yanukovych,” the spokesman wrote in his Twitter.
Yanukovych fled to Russia after being ousted in a coup in February. The erstwhile opposition that came into force accused him and other top state officials of graft and ordering mass killings of protesters.
The law, signed by Poroshenko, stipulates the inevitability of punishment for corruption offenses and crimes against national security, public safety.
"Starting from tomorrow, our public prosecution, investigative agencies and courts will finally have an opportunity to bring to justice those who robbed our people and make respective steps regarding their property gained in illegal way and regarding the arrest of their bank accounts. They must bear responsibility for the events provoked by them in Ukraine. They must be punished for their crimes against the people of Ukraine in full compliance with the Constitution and the international law," the statement on official presidential website said.
On October 7, Ukrainian parliament adopted a law, which allows the investigation and trial in absentia of individuals hiding abroad and suspected in crimes against national security.

ReplyDeletePresident of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the Law "On Amendments to the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on the Inevitability of Punishment for Certain Crimes against National Security and Public Safety, as well as Corruption Offenses".
It was stated by the President in Dnipropetrovsk.
"Starting from tomorrow, our public prosecution, investigative agencies and courts will finally have an opportunity to bring to justice those who robbed our people and make respective steps regarding their property gained in illegal way and regarding the arrest of their bank accounts. They must bear responsibility for the events provoked by them in Ukraine. Petro Poroshenko also reminded that he had stood for speedy adoption of the given law. "As a result, it has been adopted and signed today," the President said.
The Law "On Amendments to the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on the Inevitability of Punishment for Certain Crimes against National Security and Public Safety, as well as Corruption Offenses" ensures principle of inevitability of punishment when the suspect or accused flees from prosecution staying abroad. It also increases the efficiency of investigation of certain crimes against national security of Ukraine and public safety, as well as ensures confiscation of property for committing these crimes.

ReplyDeleteПрезидент Украины Петр Порошенко подписал закон, позволяющий провести заочный суд над обвиняемыми в коррупции. Об этом во вторник на своей странице в сети микроблогов Twitter сообщил пресс-секретарь главы государства Святослав Цеголко.
"Президент подписал закон, который позволяет провести суд над Януковичем", - написал он.
В свою очередь в сообщении пресс-службы Порошенко уточняется, что подписанный президентом закон предусматривает "необратимость наказания за отдельные преступления против национальной безопасности, общественной безопасности и коррупционные преступления".
