Russia has called for compliance with provisions of the Montreux Convention, which defines how long naval ships not belonging to Black Sea states can remain in its waters.

“Lately, American warships have twice extended their stay in violation of a scheduled date,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.



“We believe that all provisions of the convention should be observed. We will monitor the situation,” Lavrov said after talks with Kazakhstani counterpart Yerlan Idrisov on Thursday.

  1. NATO denied on Thursday it was violating an agreement with Russia by boosting its forces in eastern Europe and accused Moscow of "violating every principle and international commitment it has made" by incorporating Crimea.....

    Russia said earlier it wanted answers from NATO on its activities in eastern Europe after the Western military alliance promised to beef up defences for its eastern members.
