Greek Independence Day: Deputy FM Gerontopoulos on visit to U.S. - MFA

Following his tour of Australia (Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney), Deputy Foreign Minister Kyriakos Gerontopoulos is starting a four-day visit to the U.S. today, in Chicago. While in the U.S., Mr. Gerontopoulos will attend events marking Greek Independence Day and have a series of meetings with the Greek American community.

Today, Friday, 28 March, Mr. Gerontopoulos will visit the Hellenic American Academy and talk with teachers and pupils. He will then attend the Greek flag-raising ceremony at Daley Plaza and afterwards be received by Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago, at the seat of the Holy Metropolis.

Mr. Gerontopoulos will then visit Greek Town and the Hellenic Museum, and meet with representatives of the Greek American community of Chicago, with whom he will have an in-depth discussion of all the community’s issues and problems.

On Saturday, 29 March, Mr. Gerontopoulos will travel to New York, where he will take part in Greek American and youth events in New Jersey and attend an event being hosted by prominent Greeks and Americans.

On Sunday, 30 March, Mr. Gerontopoulos will attend a mass at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and the parade celebrating Greek Independence Day. On Monday, he will be received by Archbishop Demetrios of America. During his stay in New York he will have a number of meetings with representatives of the Greek American community, for updates on all the issues concerning our compatriots living in the United States.
