UE-Géorgie-Moldavie: accords d'association signés d'ici l'automne. -Rompuy

  1. EU, Georgia to sign association agreement in August. - Barroso...

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso confirmed on Monday that the European Union plans to sign an association agreement with Georgia in August this year.

In talking to reporters after negotiations with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Barroso expressed hope that the accord would be signed no later than August.

Earlier in the day, European Commission spokeswoman Pia Ahrenkilde-Hansen had confirmed that, at an EU-Russia summit in Brussels on January 28, the two sides came to an agreement to hold expert-level talks on the EU's Eastern Partnership project at which the EU would be told about potential effects of the Eastern Partnership on the Russian economy and argue that the Eastern Partnership is not an anti-Russian project but aims to build closer ties between its member countries.

  3. Kerry Urges Georgia to Sign EU Deal....

With an eye on the political upheaval in Ukraine, US Secretary of State John Kerry Wednesday urged Georgia to push forward on its plans to move closer to the European Union.

At the start of bilateral talks between the United States and Georgia, the top US diplomat told Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili that Washington was also unveiling new funding to help Tbilisi integrate with Europe.

The US supported "Georgia's participation in the EU's Eastern Partnership, and we encourage Georgia to sign an association agreement with the EU later this year," Kerry said ahead of a meeting at the State Department....................http://www.almanar.com.lb/english/adetails.php?eid=137652&cid=18&fromval=1

  4. US warns Russia against military intervention in Ukraine...

The United States on Wednesday warned Russia against a military intervention in Ukraine, saying such a move would be a “grave mistake,” as troops in western Russia were placed on high alert including near the Ukrainian border.

US Secretary of State John Kerry warned Moscow that "any kind of military intervention that would violate the sovereign territorial integrity of Ukraine would be a huge – a grave mistake".

In delivering the blunt message, Kerry also announced that the Obama administration was planning $1 billion in loan guarantees for Ukraine and would consider additional direct assistance for the former Soviet republic following unrest that led to the overthrow of its Russian-backed president, Viktor Yanukovich.

Kerry also renewed US demands that Moscow withdraw troops from disputed enclaves in another former Soviet republic, Georgia and urged Georgia to further integrate with Europe and NATO. Russia has maintained a military presence in the enclaves since a 2008 war between the two countries.

The warning, aid announcement and nudge westward for Georgia all came amid growing tensions between Russia and the West over Ukraine and were likely to fuel already-heightened Russian suspicions over Western intentions in its backyard.

Kerry insisted, however, that that US policy towards Ukraine, Georgia and the other states that once made up the Soviet Union was not aimed at reducing Russia’s influence in its neighbourhood. Instead, he maintained that US encouragement for former Soviet states to integrate with the West was driven by Washington’s desire to see their people realise aspirations for freedom in robust democracies with strong economies....................http://www.france24.com/en/20140227-usa-russia-military-intervention-ukraine-warn/
