Le responsable du sanctuaire qui est aussi l' une des sept merveilles du monde moderne, le père Osmar Raposo, a indiqué vendredi que la statue haute de 38 mètres, perchée au sommet du mont Corcovado à 710 mètres au-dessus des célèbres plages de Rio, sera restaurée début février, selon le site G1 de Globo.
Des images prises par l'hélicoptère de Globo et diffusées sur G1 montrent que la moitié du pouce droit de la statue a été cassé par la foudre.
L'institut national de recherches spatiales(Inpe), a indiqué que plus de 40.000 éclairs ont illuminé le ciel de l'Etat de Rio pendant l'orage qui a duré trois heures et provoqué la chute de dizaines d'arbres et inondé plusieurs rues. En raison des vents de 87km/h, l'aéroport intérieur de Rio a été fermé et les traversées de la baie de Rio en bateau suspendues.

The iconic statue of Jesus overlooking Rio de Janeiro,
one of the city's most recognisable landmarks, has lost a thumb tip to
lightning, local newspapers reported.
Christ the Redeemer, the
giant monument and tourist magnet that looms atop nearby Mount
Corcovado, was damaged in a huge storm Thursday night, O Globo newspaper
reported on its website.Standing at 38 metres - pedestal and all - the statue was named in a 2007 global poll as one of seven new wonders of the world.
Site caretaker Father Osmar Raposo said the giant concrete figure that juts from the mountain top some 710 metres above Rio's beaches would undergo repair next month.
O Globo broadcast helicopter images of the statue on its G1 web portal, showing part of Christ's right thumb missing.
Brazil's national space institute INPE counted more than 40,000 lighting flashes during the three-hour storm which felled dozens of trees and flooded streets.
Winds gusting at 87 kilometres per hour forced one of Rio's airports to close and brought a halt to boat trips across the city's Guanabara Bay.

ReplyDeleteΖημιές στον αντίχειρα του δεξιού χεριού προξένησε κεραυνός στο Αγαλμα του Χριστού Λυτρωτή - σύμβολο του Ρίο ντε Τζανέιρο, το βράδυ της Πέμπτης, όπως δήλωσαν αξιωματούχοι.
Ιθύνοντες της Αρχαιολογικής Υπηρεσίας της βραζιλιάνικης μεγαλούπολης που διαχειρίζεται όσα σχετίζονται με το άγαλμα, δήλωσαν στα μέσα ενημέρωσης ότι η ζημιά θα αποκατασταθεί το συντομότερο.
Η καταιγίδα της πέμπτης προκάλεσε έναν από τους μεγαλύτερους αριθμούς κεραυνών που έχουν καταγραφεί στη Βραζιλία από το 1999, οπότε και η χώρα άρχισε να παρατηρεί τις καταιγίδες.
Το Εθνικό Ινστιτούτο Έρευνας του Διαστήματος ανέφερε στο Ο Globo ότι το άγαλμα χτυπούν κεραυνοί κατά μέσο όρο τρεις με πέντε φορές το χρόνο.
Το διάσημο άγαλμα του Χριστού εγκαινιάστηκε το 1931 στην κορυφή του όρους Κορκοβάδο και θεωρείται ότι είναι το μεγαλύτερο τύπου Art-deco γλυπτό στον κόσμο.
Κάθε χρόνο φτάνουν σχεδόν δύο εκατομμύρια επισκέπτες στο μνημείο.

Repairs begin on Rio’s lightning-struck Christ statue....
ReplyDeleteRIO DE JANEIRO — Rio de Janeiro’s famed Christ statue is being repaired after two fingers and its head were chipped during recent lightning storms
Workers began examining 38m Christ the Redeemer statue on Tuesday (Jan 21). After inspecting the damage up close, officials say it’ll take about four months to repair.
The statue, which is perched atop a mountain and offering spectacular views of Rio, will remain open to tourists.
The right thumb of the statue was chipped during a violent storm last week, and its right middle finger and a spot on its head were damaged last month.
Officials say they’ll place more lightning rods on the statue to try to prevent future damage.
The Christ was inaugurated in 1931 and underwent a US$4 million (S$5 million) renovation in 2010. AP
