Ammunition rounds seized in buses bound to Hatay on Turkish-Syrian border

A large quantity of ammunition was seized on Jan. 10 in two trucks bound for the southern province of Hatay bordering Syria, Doğan News Agency reported.

Both buses, which departed from the southern city of Adana, were stopped by special operations units before they reached their destination. Officials said they contained several rounds of ammunition cartridges, without elaborating on their suspected recipients.

The buses were also searched by bomb-dismantling squads.

In November 2013, nearly 1,000 mortar shells and 10 launching pads, as well as a number of weapons bound for Syria, were seized in a truck in Adana.
The seized materiel had been manufactured using the instructions of a Syrian refugee who has lived in Turkey for several months. They were to be sent to Syria, where explosive charges would be added.
Workers at the factories where the weapons were manufactured were briefly taken into custody for interrogation.
