Catherine Deneuve Guests in FYROM's Manaki Film Festival

Catherine Deneuve will be the star guest of the 33rd Edition of the International Cinematographers festival, Manaki Brothers, which takes place in Bitola from September 15-21.
The French film legend will receive the Special Golden Camera 300 for her achievements in world cinema.

She will be festival’s chief guest for all four days. On September 15 she will receive the award and the next day she will have an open meeting with all the festival participants and guests.



The festival, the biggest of its kind in FYROM, will focus this year on FYROM's cinema. There are 28 FYROM's productions featuring in various festival programmes.

Darko Mitrevski’s new movie, “The Third half”, will open the festival on Saturday as one of the 11 films in the official competition.

Another new FYROM's movie, “Balkans is not dead”, by Aleksandar Popovski, will be screened at the closing of the festival on September 21.

Both movies are competing for the Golden Camera 300, Silver Camera 300 and Bronze Camera 300 awards.

Other movies in the official selection include, “This must be the place”, directed by Paolo Sorrentino, “Bedouin”, by Igor Voloshin, “White Deer Plain”, by Wang Quan’an, “Mystery” bu Lou Ye, “Taboo”, by Miguel Gomez, “Reality”, by Mateo Garrone, “Living” by Vasiy Sigarev, “Atomic age”, by Helena Klotz and “In Darkness”, by Agnieszka Holland.

"This year we are offering one of the highest quality and most exciting festivals ever. Not only do we have a record number of quality films, but we also have a record number of workshops, round tables, seminars, presentations of books and exhibitions and a record number of guests," Labina Mitevska, the festival director, said.

"For the first time this year our focus is on FYROM's cinematography, which is what we are really proud of," Mitevska added.

There will be four special screenings, two in the section called “In honor of”, dedicated to Luciano Tovoli ("Murder by Numbers") and Christian Berger ("The Piano Teacher").

Other programmes will feature documentaries, short films, children's films and Swedish films, as well as workshops, conferences and other activities.

A workshop with the Serbian director of photography Miladin Colakovic will be presented as part of the regional project, "Face to Face".

The "First Balkan Conference of Cinematographers" will also take place in Bitola, in cooperation with IMAGO.

This year’s festival motto is “Keep on creating”.
