A truck plowed into a crowded Christmas market in the German capital of Berlin, killing at least nine people and wounding at least 50 more, according to German media.
Police have cleared the area around Breitscheidplatz, a major public square near the Kurfürstendamm boulevard in the inner city of Berlin.
A spokesperson of Berlin police told German media that they are now working under the assumption that the incident was a terror attack while the Berlin fire department said a Pole drove his truck into the market, calling it an "accident".
According to the German Die Welt newspaper, there had been “indications of an attack on a Christmas market in Berlin” for days.
