US looks into possibility of ‘Ukrainian government-in-exile’ - paper - TASS

The US administration is looking into the possibility of a Ukrainian government-in-exile, based in Poland and led by President Vladimir Zelensky, the Washington Post reported citing own sources.

"We’re doing contingency planning now for every possibility," a source was quoted as saying, adding that this included a scenario in which Zelensky establishes a "government-in-exile" in Poland.

At the same time, the West is preparing to provide assistance to it and is now "laying the groundwork" for recognizing this entity as the official government.

Nevertheless, the United States, its allies and partners are still cautious about providing open support to Ukraine for fears of drawing "NATO member countries into direct conflict with Russia."

However, Western officials are reluctant to discuss such plans with the media, because those scenarios presume Russia’s military victory. Currently, the US Department of Defense, the US Department of State and other governmental agencies are considering further actions in case of "a possible Russian takeover of" Ukraine’s capital Kiev.
