US strike may have killed civilians in Syria, Pentagon says — RT

The US military said it would open an investigation into possible civilian casualties inflicted in a recent drone strike on Syria, with Pentagon officials claiming the attack was meant to target a “senior al-Qaeda leader.”

US Central Command, which oversees military operations around the Middle East, announced the upcoming probe on Friday, hours after an American MQ-9 Reaper drone bombed an unspecified location in Idlib province in what the CENTCOM said was a "precision strike."

“We abhor the loss of innocent life and take all possible measures to prevent them. The possibility of a civilian casualty was immediately self-reported to US Central Command,” CENTCOM spokesman Captain Bill Urban said in a statement obtained by CNN.

We are initiating a full investigation of the allegations and will release the results when appropriate.

  1. At least a civilian has been killed and seven others injured in a US military drone strike in Syria’s northwestern province of Idlib.

The Arabic-language Enab Baladi newspaper reported that the air raid targeted a man riding a motorcycle near the village of Kafr Battikh, which lies in the southern Saraqib district of the province, on Friday.

Seven members of a family, including three women and a child, were also injured while they were traveling in a car across the road.

Enab Baladi went on to say that the US-made MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle struck the motorcycle with three missiles.

Hours later, US Central Command said that it has launched an investigation after a drone strike against a senior al Qaeda leader in northwest Syria on Friday may have killed civilians, according to a spokesman for Central Command, Press TV reported.
