Israeli PM Netanyahu's Office Announces Ceasefire Between Tel Aviv, Hamas

Office of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday confirmed that the Security Cabinet voted unanimously to approve ceasefire in Gaza.

"The Security Cabinet unanimously accepted the recommendation of all heads of security services, the chief of general staff, the head of the Shabak, the head of the Mossad and the head of the National Security Council to accept the Egyptian initiative on a bilateral ceasefire, which will come into force later," the statement said.

According to Reuters, citing a Hamas official, Israel and the military group will enter a "mutual and simultaneous" Gaza truce at 2 a.m. local time [23:00 GMT] on Friday.

According to AFP, both Hamas and the Islamic Jihad have confirmed the ceasefire.

A Walla News reporter said, citing an Israeli official, that the agreement is "unconditional", and there are no understandings or commitments in regard with al-Aqsa mosque or Sheikh Jarrah as part of the agreement.

The ceasefire will reportedly be monitored by Egypt, with the country's president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi ordering two security delegations to be dispatched in Israel and the Palestinian territories to uphold the ceasefire.

The meeting of the Security Cabinet was convened earlier in the day by the Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, reportedly ending after three hours.

In wake of a possible truce, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said that he would welcome the ceasefire by Israel, but it will not be enough, as Jerusalem remains the key issue....SPUTNIK
