No Iranian Forces in Southern Syria, Russia Says

No Iranian Forces in Southern Syria
Russian President's Special Envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev said Iran's presence in Syria is advisory, stressing that there are no Iranian forces on the Arab country's soil in south.

Interfax news agency quoted Lavrentiev as saying on Monday that the Russia-US summit held in Helsinki, Finland, only covered issues of security and cooperation between the two countries.

He also said that Iranian forces are no longer present in southern Syria.

Lavrentiev acknowledged deployment of Iranian advisers in Syria, whose presence was at the official request of the legitimate Syrian government.

He added that terrorists/militant groups in the south of the Arab country have indicated willingness for reconciliation.
