Cameron Says Seven Terror Plots Foiled in Six Months

British Prime Minister David Cameron said that British security and intelligence services have stopped something like seven attacks in the last six months.

Seven terrorist plots have been thwarted in the United Kingdom over the last six months, British Prime Minister David Cameron said Monday.

"Our security and intelligence services have stopped something like seven attacks in the last six months," Cameron told the BBC in an interview at the southern Turkish city of Antalya, during the ongoing G20 summit.

Cameron stated that the deadly Paris attacks "could have happened" in the United Kingdom, although Britain does not take part in the anti-Islamic State (ISIL) jihadist group airstrikes led by the United States. France is a founding member of the 62-member US-led anti-ISIL coalition.

Up to 132 people have been killed and 305 injured, 99 critically, in a November 13 series of coordinated attacks at a football stadium, a concert hall and several restaurants in Paris.

"That’s one of the reasons we are strengthening the security intelligence services with this announcement today," the British leader said, classifying the threat of terrorism as the "struggle of our generation."

Downing Street announced earlier on Monday an additional 1,900 MI5, MI6 and Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) officers to be deployed in anti-terror efforts, including in response to cyberattacks and other global security
