Greek, Turkish Cypriot leaders fail to reach agreement to reunify Cyprus

Negotiations between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders for the reunification of Cyprus failed on Friday in Switzerland, despite intense efforts by the United Nations to facilitate an understanding to end the 43 years of partition of the island.

"I regret to inform you that despite the strong commitment of the parties, the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot as well as Turkey, Greece and the United Kingdom, that this conference has been closed without an agreement," the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said in a brief appearance to the press.
