Iraq: Suicide bombing kills Shia worshippers commemorating day of Ashura.

A suicide bomber has detonated an explosive vest in the middle of a Shia Muslim gathering in Baghdad, killing at least 31 people and wounding more than 50, say police and medics on the scene.

Saturday's explosion went off inside a tent filled with people commemorating the day of Ashura - which passed earlier this week - in which Muslims generally, and Shia in particular, mourn the killing of Prophet Muhammad's grandson Hussein in the seventh century.

The tent was set up in a crowded market in the city's northern al-Shaab district, Reuters news agency reported.
