Russia could deploy missiles on the Kuril Islands in response to the deployment of THAAD missile defense in Korea

The Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation expressed serious concern about the agreement between Washington and Seoul on the placement of South Korea’s missile defense system THAAD.

The Russian foreign Ministry said that Moscow had consistently objected to the placement of missile defense facilities in South Korea. According to the foreign Ministry, strengthen US capabilities in the Pacific segment of its global missile defense system, thereby violating the established strategic balance.

Meanwhile, the President of Academy of geopolitical problems Colonel-General Leonid Ivashov told RIA Novosti that Russia in response to the deployment of missile defense in Korea can accommodate the additional strike missile systems in the far East, including the Kuril Islands.

According to him, in addition to ground-based complexes, can be set complexes «Caliber» on the ships of the Pacific fleet. Recall that these missiles the Russian ships on the Caspian sea fired on targets in Syria.
