OSCE official admits high risks of Ukrainian society’s polarization. Ukraine's president wants English taught at schools instead of Russian

There is a very high risk of a further polarization of Ukrainian society, Astrid Tors, a spokeswoman for the problems of ethnic minorities at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said on Friday at a session of the organization’s parliamentary assembly.
The problem of the Russian language and the attempts to change it created one of the causes of the current crisis, she said.
Latest developments in Ukraine show that the risks of further polarized changes in Ukrainian society are high and much remains unclear about the status of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics.

India furious about UK lawmakers' plans to debate Kashmir

The Indian government is furious about British MPs' plan to hold a debate on the "political and humanitarian situation in Kashmir" on Thursday. The problem of Kashmir derived from British policy of 'Divide and Rule' at colonial times.

The debate is scheduled to take place as Kashmir is grappling with its worst floods in more than a century.

The debate will not take place in the main chamber of the House of Commons, but in a committee room in Britain's Houses of Parliament. Its contents will be officially recorded.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Austria, which sparked mass demonstrations in Vienna, has drawn more sharp words from Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, who said the visit “clearly shows Erdoğan has brought his election campaign to Austria and has caused disorder.”

“We refuse to accept this. The only thing I can say is that respect for a country does not look like this,” Kurz told journalists on June 19, after as many as 10,000 people demonstrated against Erdoğan’s visit, according to figures provided by organizers and local police.

Economic сrisis in Ukraine due to adventurism of politicians. - Russian Foreign Ministry

The economic crisis in Ukraine happened because of the adventurism of politicians and the irresponsibility of a number of goverments not interested in the fate of the country's citizens, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

"We are convinced that the goal and results of preparing the legislation on introducing changes to the Ukrainian Constitution should not be the cosmetic touch-ups of earlier texts, but the appearance of a reworked and renewed social agreement that would be accepted by the multi-ethnic Ukrainian socieity as being solid and reliable," the statement says.

Which Greece is collapsing?....

A few years after the Athens Olympic Games, when the Greeks –at least the elite of this country– passionately lived a Cinderella fairy-tale, the tough reality turned the public discussion in exactly the opposite direction. The worldwide economic crisis, in addition to the euro crisis, led Greek society to an unprecedented crisis and political intolerance. In parallel, these issues brought to the surface all the structural malformations of the modern Greek state. So Greece became a special and unique phenomenon in Europe, a catalyst for big negative changes.
But what are those parameters that led Greece to being in such an unfavorable position? Is it only the reorganization of polity after the dictatorship (1967-1973), which turned the state into a servant of party mechanisms? Are there deeper causes to the way Greece was established as a nation-state, which were just exacerbated by recent management?
A problematic independence
The Greek rebirth, through the second biggest –after the French- anti-authoritarian European revolution, led to the creation of the young Greek state in 1830. But the geographical limits of the newly formed nation-state were far from the dreams of the progressive representatives of the Enlightenment that dreamed of and planned the Revolution.

Greece's long, painful suicide ....

By Nick Malkoutzis (Kathimerini)
There are many ways one can look upon Dimitris Christoulas’s decision to end his life in front of Parliament on Wednesday. Each has a different interpretation, each has different implications but no matter which one you choose, they will all fill you with sorrow.
On a personal level, it is a tragedy that a 77-year-old man should feel so discouraged by what he saw around him, so appalled by his own financial misfortune and the prospect of scrounging through garbage to survive that he should choose to shoot himself in the center of Athens.
One can feel nothing but despair that an active member of his community should feel so alone that he should opt to exit society in such a dramatic way. It tells us of the isolation and hopelessness that many around us feel. Lest we forget, it brings us face-to-face with the impact of the crisis and the flawed economic polices it has spawned. We see more clearly the people who have lost their jobs, businesses, homes and aspirations. It reminds us that the human cost of the so-called fiscal adjustment makes debates about the political cost irrelevant.
