Hurricane Harvey downgrades in south US, heavy rain continues

Hurricane Harvey
US National Hurricane Center said on Saturday Hurricane Harvey has downgraded to a tropical storm after landfall Friday night. Texas coastal areas in south US, including Houston, has experienced bands of heavy rain and several tornadoes. There is no casualty report so far.

76 dead, thousand houses ruined in Sudan heavy floods

Sudan's Interior Minister Ismat Abdel Rahman said Wednesday that 76 people died and around 1,300 houses collapsed due to the recent heavy floods and rains in Sudan, Sudan's Ashorooq net reported.

Flash floods continue in France and Germany

Flash floods and overflowing rivers continue to bring misery to parts of Germany and France. The weather pattern that has been sitting over central Europe for a week has spawned daily storms. Slow-moving and large thunderclouds have brought hail, violent wind gusts and torrential rain to both plain and mountain.

An Iraqi army offensive to retake the city of Mosul was suspended after five days due to bad weather, a Kurdish commander said Monday.

The Iraqi Defense Ministry announced Thursday the start of a major offensive to retake Mosul, Iraq's third-largest city, which was captured in June 2014 by the Islamic State.
