Greek PM says request fresh mandate to move forward, Grexit never our option

ATHENS, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- In his first interview after resigning last week to force snap general elections in autumn, Greece's outgoing Leftist Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras defended his decision as a necessary step on Wednesday, requesting a fresh mandate to move forward and implement the new Greek bailout.

Sakorafas) have brought before the European Commission the subject of the conference on the Western Balkans organized by the German government in August, with selected entries and outside the institutional framework of the EU.

Greek main opposition party expects "change" as Greeks vote in local polls

Greek main opposition SYRIZA party head Alexis Tsipras expected "change of authority" on Sunday as Greeks were voting in the first round of local polls.

"I am certain that today a first but important step will be taken so that municipalities and regions change authority, an important step so that Greece turns page," he said after casting his ballot in central Athens.

Approximately 9.8 million registered voters are asked to choose their new representatives in municipal and regional councils in two rounds.
