Syrian Government Says Ready for Political Solution in Talks With 'Real Opposition'

UNITED NATIONS, September 29 - The Syrian government is striving for a political solution of the crisis in the war-torn country through the dialogue with opposition that upholds fighting terrorism as its priority and encourages reconciliation, Foreign Minister Walid Moualem said Monday.
"We are open to a political solution in Syria, with a real opposition that seeks the prosperity, stability and security of Syria, an opposition that does not depend on the outside and does not speak on behalf of that outside," Moualem told a plenary session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Canada to Russia: ‘We will defend our sovereignty in the Arctic’

Canada is ready for a confrontation with Russia if it expands its ambitions in the Arctic region, Foreign Minister John Baird told a Danish newspaper. The oil-rich region is set to become a key political battleground in the coming decades.
“We are deeply concerned, and we are determined to promote and defend the sovereignty of Canada in the Arctic,” Baird said in an interview with the Danish publication Berlingske, published in the native language.
“For us, this is a strategic priority. In connection with the militarization that we are seeing, we would prefer to alleviate the conflict, but it's clear that we will defend our own sovereign power.”

Ukrainian FM blames Russia for Kiev's crimes

Ukrainian Minister for Foreign Affairs Pavel Klimkin accused Russia of futility of Berlin talks about the possibility of truce between government forces and militias in the east of Ukraine. According to the official, the Russian Federation refused to comply with certain conditions, RT says.

According to Klimkin, Russia did not claim responsibility for control of the border. The country, he added, also refused to admit that military men and defense hardware constantly cross the border, nor did it admit that the Russian military attack the territory of Ukraine.

Estonian foreign ministry has confirmed the recording of his conversation with EU foreign policy chief is authentic. Urmas Paet said that snipers who shot at protesters and police in Kiev were hired by Maidan leaders.
Paet told RIA-Novosti news agency that he talked to Catherine Ashton last week right after retiring from Kiev, but refrained from further comments, saying that he has to “listen to the tape first.”
“It’s very disappointing that such surveillance took place altogether. It’s not a coincidence that this conversation was uploaded [to the web] today,” he stressed.
“My conversation with Ashton took place last week right after I returned from Kiev. At that time I was already in Estonia,” Paet added.

German FM calls for responsibility for Ukraine's national unity

BERLIN, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Saturday urged all parties in Ukraine to act in the interests of the country's territorial integrity and national unity.

"In this critical situation, all sides must be aware of their responsibility for the future and the national unity of Ukraine," Steinmeier said in a statement. He urged those with responsibility to halt the political escalation in the country.

Lebanon slams Israel's intent to demarcate maritime border


BEIRUT, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour warned Saturday that Israel's unilateral decision to demarcate the maritime border (EEZ)with Lebanon would threaten stability in the region.

Mansour said in a statement "this is a very dangerous decision if adopted by Israel, and it threatens stability, security and peace in the region.

He said that this action by Israel does not produce any legal obligations for Lebanon.

Former FM says Greece spied on two US ambassadors/Θ. Πάγκαλος : «Αυτό έχει γίνει προ 20ετίας και υπάρχει πλήρης παραγραφή, για όλους»

A former foreign minister of Greece says the U.S. is not the only country eavesdropping on foreign diplomats: his country's secret services did that to U.S. ambassadors in Athens and Ankara in the 1990s.

Theodoros Pangalos spoke Tuesday on Vima FM radio during a discussion about the latest revelations in the American NSA surveillance affair. The German magazine Der Spiegel has published a slide purportedly from the NSA showing Athens as one of the locations where the NSA had monitoring capabilities.

Pangalos, Greece's foreign minister from 1996-1999, said: "at some point the (National Intelligence Service) had managed to monitor not only the American ambassador in Athens but also the American ambassador in Ankara."

FYROM News: Bulgarian Foreign Minister confirms he used ‘FYROM’ name. -"I do not think that I made a mistake, using that name"

Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin confirmed on October 23 that during a visit to meet his counterpart in Athens (17/10/13) a few days earlier, he had used the name “Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” (FYROM) instead of the  its so-called constitutional name that has been Bulgaria’s official policy for 18 years.

Vigenin, a former MEP who was appointed to the Foreign Ministry when the Bulgarian Socialist Party came to power in May 2013, insisted to public broadcaster Bulgarian National Radio that he had been correct to do so.

F.Y.R.O.M. News - Poposki with Ashton: Athens should engage more for the solution of the name dispute

The Foreign Minister of FYR Macedonia, Nikola Poposki said today in Brussels that Greece must be engaged more for the solution of the name dispute and not to block the process of integration of FYROM in the European Union. Poposki, who was accompanied by the Minister for Integration, Fatmir Besimi issued this declaration after the meeting with the high representative for foreign policies and security, Catherine Ashton.

Minister Poposki said that he had informed baroness Ashton on the efforts of FYROM in solving the name dispute, but he has also complained about the fact that Athens has neglected this process. “We have also manifested our commitment in the aspect of European integration and it’s necessary for the country to move forward in the EU accession process”, said minister Poposki.

Skopje (FYROM) is not expecting anything from the EU Summit

EU General Affairs Committee will approve today in Luxembourg the conclusions for the next Summit of the Council of Europe, which will be held on Thursday and Friday in Brussels. This has been confirmed by Albanian sources within government in Skopje.

EU foreign ministers are expected to talk about the possibility of issuing the date for the start of negotiations for the accession of Serbia and the endorsement of the Association and Stabilization Agreement with Kosovo.

In spite of the four consecutive recommendations issued by the European Commission and European Parliament, FYR Macedonia will not be able to be issued the date for negotiations today, although such proposal is formally part of the agenda.

Formal Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) will be held in Ohrid, FYROM on May 31 

Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Naci Koru will represent Turkey during the meeting, according to a statement released  by Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Current situation in the region will be on top of the agenda, while participants will also revise the EU perspectives of  the countries in the region, said the statement.
