This is the ‘moment of truth’ says UN envoy ahead of international conference on Cyprus

Speaking ahead of an international conference on Cyprus, the United Nations Special Adviser on the country stressed that the coming days would be crucial for the resolution of the remaining matters, and said that while the path ahead is “going to be difficult,” a solution is possible.

Amid ‘constructive atmosphere,’ UN special envoy welcomes continuation of Cyprus negotiations

UN, 17 June 2015 – The Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaders have agreed to continue their pursuit of a comprehensive settlement for the political issues facing the Mediterranean island following their third meeting today, the Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide, has announced.

Ban Ki-moon commends leaders’ commitment to settle Cyprus issue

 UN, 4 June 2015 – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today commended the commitment of the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mustafa Akinci, and the Greek Cypriot leader, Nicos Anastasiades, to reach a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus issue.

UN, 28 May 2015 – Today, the Greek Cypriot leader, Nicos Anastasiades, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mustafa Akinci, took the next steps towards fulfilling their joint vision for a united federal Cyprus, the United Nations Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on Cyprus has confirmed.

The UN Secretary General`s Special Advisor for Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide, `has repeatedly underlined that the Republic of Cyprus has exactly the same right to declare an Exclusive Economic Zone as any other sovereign state, and that its rights in this regard should be fully respected by other states`.

Cyprus: UN envoy ‘optimistic’ about re-start of structured negotiations
