Darya Dugina: Speculation rife as Russians ponder journalist's killing - BBC News

Muscovites on Monday morning awoke to a smoky haze that had enveloped the city - nearby wildfires were to blame, said the authorities. The other topic of conversation was equally murky - who killed the ultranationalist Darya Dugina, and was she the intended target?

The 29-year-old journalist was killed in a car bomb explosion on Saturday night.

Russian media reported that her father, radical philosopher Alexander Dugin, was supposed to be travelling in the vehicle, but changed his mind at the last minute. This led to speculation that Mr Dugin, 60, was the intended victim...

...Russia has accused Ukrainian special services of killing the daughter of one of Vladimir Putin's allies.
Journalist Darya Dugina, aged 29, died on Saturday when a car she was driving exploded near Moscow...

...But in a statement carried by Russian media outlets, the FSB contends that the Ukrainian special services hired a contractor who arrived in Russia in mid-July with her young daughter.

It alleges she rented an apartment in the same building as Ms Dugin to learn about her life. The security agency also said the suspects used a Mini Cooper car which used three different sets of licence plates.

The suspect escaped to Estonia after the explosion, the FSB said.
