Thousands march across Georgia in support of country's bid for EU membership

Thousands of people took to the streets in various cities of Georgia on Monday to support the country's bid for membership in the European Union.

People who participated in a demonstration in the evening organized by non-governmental organizations in the capital Tbilisi blocked the main street of the city, Shota Rustaveli Avenue, to traffic.

Leaders of various opposition parties and university students were among the demonstrators, who carried the flags of the EU, Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova.

The participants, chanting the slogan "Towards Europe," marched from the Tbilisi Concert Hall to the Georgian parliament.

Speaking during the demonstrations, the rally organizers accused the government of not making enough efforts for Georgia's EU membership and asserted that the Tbilisi administration should be more active in this regard.
