No automatic extension of cross-border aid to Syria envisaged - Russian diplomat - TASS

Automatic extension of the Mechanism for Cross-Border Aid Delivery into Syria (CBM) is not envisaged, everything will depend on the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2585, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Chumakov said on Wednesday.

"We would like to note that the new course of the United Nations secretary general’s report on the humanitarian situation in Syria is right. But, yet, we have a lot to do to exclude problems with the extension of the cross-border aid mechanism by the Security Council in the coming winter," he said at a UN Security Council meeting. "We call on the United Nations all delegations to the [Security] Council to take up the organization of deliveries across the contact lines, to make their contribution to the normalization of the humanitarian situation in Syria, strengthening its territorial integrity."

"Resolutions 2585 does not provide for any automatic extension. Everything will depend on the progress in the implementation of its provisions," he stressed.
