A no-confidence motion against Portugal's Socialist Party government over the loss of life in disastrous wildfires that have ravaged the nation in recent months gained traction on Wednesday when the main opposition party signaled its backing.
The center-right Social Democratic Party (PSD), led by former prime minister Pedro Coelho, added to the clamor against the Socialist Party (PS) government of Antonio Costa when he told journalists in parliament that he would back the no-confidence notion tabled the previous day by the small conservative CDS – People's Party.
