Roadside bomb kills 1, injures 4 police near Cairo

At least one Egyptian police officer has died, and four other people were injured after an improvised explosive device, planted on the side of the road detonated as a police car was driving by, Reuters reported, citing Egypt’s Interior Ministry.

The blast happened Sunday night at around 12:45am local time in the suburb of Maadi, south of Cairo.

Apart from First Lieutenant Ali Abdelkhaliq, who died as a result of the explosion, one other officer and three recruits who were on board a car were injured and transported to the hospital.

An investigation has been opened into the incident.
