Israel warns soccer fans against travel to Albania due to terror threat

Israeli authorities on Wednesday recommended that supporters of its national soccer team avoid traveling to Albania to attend an upcoming World Cup qualifier following threats of a planned terror attack on the stadium.

After the Israeli foreign intelligence service (Mossad) notified Albania of the security threat, the Balkan country's authorities decided to change the match's venue from the northwestern city of Shkodër to Elbasan, a city 50 kilometers (31 miles) to the south of the capital Tirana.

Albanian police also arrested four individuals suspected of ties to the Islamic State jihadist group.

Despite these precautions, Israel's Counter-Terrorism Bureau has issued a travel warning for Albania and raised the threat level to level 2, which implies a "high concrete threat."
