At least three people were killed in the Portuguese island of Madeira in wildfires which have been affecting the country, Visao weekly reported Wednesday.
The incident occurred Tuesday, with fires burning for two days on the island. The wildfires seriously injured at least two people and led to some 1,000 evacuations.
Continental Portugal has also been experiencing wildfires for several days after temperatures rose to 35 degrees Celsius.
Wildfires are frequent in the country during summer months. In 2013, tens of thousands of hectares of forests were reportedly destroyed.
