Reports of significant military presence deployed in Ankara, Istanbul

A significantly increased military presence was deployed in the Turkish cities of Ankara and Istanbul Friday night, local reports said.

Low flying f-16 jets were seen circling over Ankara while Turkish security forces partially closed the Bosphorus bridges in Istanbul.

The Bosphorus and Fatih bridges were closed by the gendarmerie -- a branch of the Turkish military dedicated to internal security -- for traffic travelling from Asia to Europe, NTV television said. Traffic was still moving in the other direction.

There was at least one unconfirmed report of an explosion heard in Ankara.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said that "illegal action" was being taken by a military group and that those involved would "pay the highest price."
