Egypt to receive alleged EgyptAir MS804 wreckage washed ashore in Israel

Egypt is coordinating the transfer of pieces of wreckage believed to be from the ill-fated EgyptAir flight MS808 that washed up on an Israeli beach, an Egyptian investigation committee said in a Friday statement.

The Israeli coast guard found the apparent pieces of the plane, an Airbus A320 that was en route from Paris to Cairo and slammed into the Mediterranean on 19 May, killing all 66 people on board

The vessel John Lethbridge, contracted by the Egyptian government to find the plane wreckage, is currently sweeping the site of the crash off the coast of Alexandria to make sure there no human remains are left undiscovered, the statement added.

Last Sunday, the committee announced that all found body parts the victims have been recovered.

The reason for the crash remains unclear. The pilots made no distress call, and no group has claimed to have brought down the aircraft.

Data from the flight's data recorder is being decoded in Cairo after it was repaired in France. Preliminary information confirms smoke onboard the flight before it crashed into the sea.
