Authorities in Egypt have said one of the black boxes from the EgyptAir flight that crashed in May has been recovered.
The Egyptian investigation committee said that the search teams who found the cockpit voice recorder were forced to salvage the device over several stages as it was damaged.
The Airbus A320, which had been en route from Paris to Cairo, disappeared on 19 May with the loss of all 66 people on board.
A specialist vessel owned by Mauritius-based Deep Ocean Search had, however, been able to recover the memory unit, the committee said in a statement.
Egypt's public prosecutor was informed and ordered that the recovered device, one of two so-called black boxes on the plane, be handed over to the Egyptian investigating team for analysis.
The device is now being transferred from the vessel to the coastal city of Alexandria where representatives from the public prosecution and investigators are waiting to receive it.
Since the crash, search teams have been working against the clock to recover the black box flight recorders, which are crucial to explaining what caused the flight MS804 to crash, as they are due to stop emitting signals on 24 June...
