Three police officers wounded in Brussels shootings

Three police officers have been wounded during a raid in southern Brussels linked to the investigation of November's Paris attacks.

Police told residents to stay indoors and a primary school close to the scene of the shooting was in lock down, residents said.

A spokeswoman for the local police service in southern Brussels said two officers were lightly wounded in an initial incident and a third was also slightly hurt later.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said French police units were also taking part in the raid.

Soldiers were on streets in central Brussels as the operation in the southern suburb of Forest continued.

"This operation is connected to the Paris attacks," a spokesman for Belgium's federal prosecutor said.

However, a French police source told AFP that one of the prime suspects connected to the Paris attacks, 26-year-old Frenchman Salah Abdeslam, is not a target of the operation in Brussels.

It is believed Mr Abdeslam is still on the run. He left Paris shortly after his brother blew himself up in the attacks...
