Economic sanctions on Iran lifted as fulfilled its commitments

International sanctions on Iran have been lifted after its compliance with obligations under its nuclear agreement with world powers was certified.

The EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, announced the lifting of sanctions in accordance with the deal "as Iran has fulfilled its commitment".

The international nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, said its inspectors had verified that Iran had taken the required steps.

"As Iran has fulfilled its commitments, today multilateral and national economic and financial sanctions related to Iran's nuclear programme are lifted."
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is the UN’s nuclear watchdog, has released a statement saying that Iran has carried out all of the measures required under its deal with six world powers.
