Russia signals revival of frozen Turkish Stream project

The Russian energy minister has said Russia might consider working on the Turkish Stream project that was called off after a dispute with Turkey over the downing of a Russian jet in late November.

Energy Minister Alexander Novak told LifeNews TV channel talks on the project could resume when the right time comes.

"There are some expectations that the project will be carried out one day or another. If our counterparts are seriously interested in that, we may proceed with talks," he said. "At the same time, developing infrastructure in Central Europe is of crucial importance."

His remarks came at a time as Russia canceled many joint projects and placed a raft of economic sanctions against Turkey after the Turkish Air Forces shot down a Russian bomber jet on Nov. 24.

Moscow froze the Turkish Stream project -- intended to pump Russian gas via Turkey into southeastern Europe while bypassing Ukraine -- earlier in December.
