Egypt beefs up airport security to prevent terror attack

The Egyptian government has chosen a Britain-based company, Control Risks, to monitor security measures in the country's airports, Egyptian Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou announced on Tuesday.

In November, Egyptian government announced that it planned to spend about 150 million Egyptian pounds (some 19 million US dollars) in upgrading all security equipment in all airports.

"Ensuring safe flights for Egyptian citizens, tourists and business travellers is a top priority of the Egyptian government. And it means Egypt should have the world's leading systems for airport security," Hisham Zaazou said in a press conference.

Late in October, a Russian Airbus A321 crashed in Sinai peninsula, killing all 224 passengers and working staff on board. Ansar Bayt El-Maqdis, who has sworn allegiance to Islamic State, claimed responsibility for the crash.

Although Russia has confirmed the crash as a terrorist attack, the investigative committee led by Egypt said recently that they had not obtained any exact evidence about this.
